Your Emotions Cannot Dictate Who You Are

So that you know, I’m a very soft-hearted person. I’ve been trying to grow some tough skin—but it’s not working out very well for me yet.
I get touched quickly. I lose sleep easily because of my emotions. I love people so much that it hurts when something goes wrong.
But here’s what the Holy Spirit has been showing me lately: I can’t let my emotions dictate who I am—and neither can you.
An Emotional Imbalance
Since I’ve been back from Pakistan, I’ve noticed something—especially here in Canada—an emotional imbalance. People are letting emotions rule their lives.
Now, I don’t think it’s coming from our church specifically, but it’s a spirit that’s been influencing many in this season. And the truth is…We’ve got to stop letting emotions lead us.
Yes, emotions are real. Yes, you should have feelings. But your emotions must flow through Christ Jesus.
Emotions are meant to express what’s true—not distort it. When emotions rule you, they’ll lead you into confusion. But when Christ rules you, emotions find their proper place—balanced, pure, and under His authority.
Jesus Defines You
Your emotions cannot define who you are. Jesus defines who you are.
You’re not forced to work for your salvation—your spiritual DNA has already changed. You’ve been born again—born into a new life in Christ!
And in that new life, your inheritance begins to work through you automatically.
When your heart is pure, you naturally want to:
Serve others
Bless people
Reach out and help
Bring healing and deliverance.
See lives transformed
It’s not a burden—it’s your new nature. You don’t do these things to be saved; you do them because you are saved.
Identity in the Body
Here’s what I believe the Lord is emphasizing: Many believers think they’re fully identified in Christ. Still, they’re missing a vital part of their identity—connection to the Body of Christ.
“For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God…in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.”— Ephesians 2:18 -22 (NKJV)
The Bible says we are fitly framed together. We’re joined closely, built into a spiritual house where Christ Himself is the cornerstone.
That means there’s no such thing as being part of the Body of Christ while standing alone. You can say, “This is my church,” and I’m glad you do—but being fitly joined means being present, connected, and active in the body.
The True You
If you truly want to walk in your God-given identity, you must be joined to the body He’s called you to. That’s where identity is strengthened. That’s where Christ is revealed through you.
So yes, feel deeply. Love passionately. But don’t let emotions lead you.
Let Jesus lead you. Let your heart be guided by His truth—not tossed by the waves of emotion.
Because who you are isn’t defined by what you feel—it’s defined by Christ in you, the hope of glory.
